Wapping means the “place of the wappa’s’. The first Saxon settled in this area. Initially during sixteenth century, even sailors lived in this place. Its location on river makes the property in wapping more attractive. Later till twentieth century, sailors continued to live in this place. They were prominent as the wapping residents. However, the sea criminals and pirates were hanged in the execution dock. These criminals were hanged and, even now you can see its replica next to the whit by pub. For majority of the tourists, wapping is still like one of the most important place in London. Geographically, it is situated near river Thames and north bank. During 1798, the police force has been formed near the wapping high street.

Now, most of the wapping residents call this police force as a “Maine police unit”. Later during the nineteenth century, docks and large warehouses were being built for its expansion. The industrial revolution played a vital role in the development of this area. During the World War II, building and property in wapping suffered due to heavy destruction. Most of the wapping area remained quite derelict till twentieth century. After that most of the warehouses were rehabilitated into the luxury flats.

Earlier, majority of the wapping residents were print workers and sailors. Now, government has introduced many development programs for converted all its warehouses into new buildings. The property in wapping ranges from warehouse conversion, ex-local authority to the new build accommodation development. Wapping is one of the most eminent places in London borough of tower hamlets. It is a part of eastern docklands. According to the history of wapping, this place suffered huge damages after the World War II. Due to this, the major warehouses in this area are left empty. Now, these are converted to the luxury flats.
